J Lo “Just Friends” with Scientology

Jennifer Lopez may be one of the first celebrities to have a brush with Scientology and come out with her own religious beliefs intact.  And for that – we can hardly believe we’re saying it – but bravo to you, J Lo.

Now, don’t think that’s a judgment on Scientology, because it’s not.  However, with more and more celebrities adopting get-saved-quick approaches to religion, it’s refreshing to see someone who is not so easily swept into the fad or led into the trendiest house of worship by their A-list friends.  Scientology is so popular in Hollywood these days, you practically get a copy of Dianetics with your S.A.G. card. 

For those of you keeping score at home, Scientology’s celebrity followers include: L. Ron’s main man himself, Tom Cruise, his glazed over bride, Katie Holmes, John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman, Giovanni Ribisi, Beck, Juliette Lewis, Erika Christensen, Danny Masterson, Isaac Hayes, Lisa Marie Presley, Sofia Milos, and J Lo’s BFF, Leah Remini. 

However, J Lo’s connection to Scientology hits much closer to home.  In an interview with a Miami reporter earlier this week, J Lo revealed, “My dad has been a Scientologist for 20 years.” 

Jennifer herself is Catholic, which means that between her famous friends and her father she must have the Xenu conversion speeches coming at her from all sides.  For now, however, Jenny from the Block seems determined to hold on to her own religious beliefs.

And for the record, we’d just like to see a count of which celebrities are still wearing their red string Kabbalah bracelets.  Or, perhaps those are so last year.
