Piven was sued by the producers of David Mamet's Speed the Plow after he left the show citing mercury poisoning. The arbitrators found that Piven didn't breach any contractual obligations by leaving the show. The arbitrator found that there was "sufficient evidence to establish that Piven's decision was a reasonable one; that it was reasonably based, and that the contrary evidence is insufficient."
Piven said in a statement to "The Insider" regarding the matter, "I'm pleased with the outcome of the arbitration and to be completely vindicated in this matter based on the facts and the medical evidence."
