The actress - the daughter of movie heavyweights Bruce Willis and Demi Moore - admits their status may have got her foot in the door initially.
But she said she still had to have the talent to get roles.
She said: “When I go into an audition, my parents aren’t going to be the ones acting in the movie.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think casting directors really care.
And she said she has not had any formal training.
She said: “I did it a little bit in high school and things like that, but I never went to any specific school for it.”
Rumer, 21, will next be seen in horror flick, Sorority Row. It hits cinemas in September.
