In a letter to fans on her Web site she says, "Traveling has helped a great deal. I consider myself on a journey of discovery and recovery. I don't accept to be held down by the past, nor do I expect too much of the future. This allows me to dream freely with no strings attached."
Shania found a travel companion in Frederic Thiebaud, ex-husband of Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Marie-Anne is Shania's former friend and secretary and manager of her chateau in Switzerland. An alleged affair between Marie-Anne and "Mutt" was uncovered last year. Of Fred, Shania says, "…having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time under the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone." Shania's son Eja and Frederic's daughter Johanna joined their parents on several of the trips.
In addition to the heartfelt letter, Shania composed a video diary chronicling her world travels. Though the singer is remaining mum as to when she will release new material, she promises her ongoing self-discovery will be reflected in her future work.
