NYC subway art contest proposed to honor Jackson

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City Councilwoman has come up with another way to honor Michael Jackson at the subway station where he shot the music video for "Bad."

Letitia James had asked the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to place a plaque at Brooklyn's Hoyt-Schermerhorn (SKER'-mur-horn) station — or have the late singer's name added to the station's name.

MTA officials rejected the request because plaques are prohibited in stations. The agency is developing guidelines for lucrative naming-rights deals.

Now James says she plans to ask for a station art contest honoring Jackson.

The MTA didn't immediately return a message Tuesday.

Jackson, who died June 25, shot the Martin Scorsese-directed video for "Bad" at the station in 1987.
