Oprah Winfrey on Jaycee Dugard: 'I Want That Interview'

Talk-show maven Oprah Winfrey sat down with "The Insider"'s Samantha Harris to talk about Lady O's recent interviews with ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and the interview she's hoping to land with kidnapping victim Jaycee Dugard.

Oprah gets candid about her interview with Andrews, who made headlines when a nude video of her was recorded through a peephole and leaked.

"No, I did not see the tape," Oprah tells Samantha about the subject of the interview. "No, I didn't want to see the tape. That's not necessary for me…now you're invading the person's privacy when you know the person doesn’t want you to see the tape."

Oprah says she doesn't believe rumors that suggest Andrews intentionally leaked the tape, adding, "I felt for her."

The queen of talk also reveals to Samantha that she is hoping to land an interview with Dugard, saying it was the first time she called on one of her producers to work on getting the interview.

“This is the one I want. I want that interview…," Oprah says.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show"'s new season kicks off on September 14, with a highly anticipated, two-episode interview with Whitney Houston.

  • The first priority ANYONE in the media should care about is Miss Dugard acclimating herself to her world, her family, etc.
While her story is gripping, she should be entitled to some normalcy.

  • I was taken by a stranger at 8 yrs old from a gift shop... threatened and raped. I know that terror, I know that pain. Don't treat Jaycee like some object. Don't exploit her and add to her trauma. I am so horrified and saddened by your comments Oprah.

  • The media is disgusting. OMG Oprah I used to like you, but that smile on your face as you describe how much you "want that interview" made my stomach turn. I was horrified. This is not just some story. Jaycee Dugard is a real person who has been repeatedly traumatized over a long long time... she did what she had to do to survive and it worked. She is a survivor in the true sense of the word. No one should be exploiting her... she doesn't have to talk to you Oprah, or anyone else. She deserves respect, love and support, and safety... AND PROTECTION FROM THE MEDIA. Shame on you Oprah... wipe that smile off your face... step back and feel this one... there are so many parts to this story that should bring tears to your eyes and make you angry at those that hurt her, not make you salivate for the taste of some perfect interview. I have been crying every day for Jaycee and her family and I am so disgusted with you. I have finally been crying for myself, too. I was taken by a stranger from an amusement park gift shop when I was 8 and threatened and raped... I was gone for "only" 3 hours, but I know that terror, I know that hell. You have no right... no right at all Oprah. This isn't a game. Please don't treat her like one.

  • Oh my God ~ leave that poor woman alone. That is about your own ego. If you want to do some good, then buy her a secluded home in a foreign land so that she might live in peace with her children and family.

  • Lacy and her family ( because they will be on her coattails) have an opportunity to make an extraordinary amount of money. The interviews, the book deal(s), the movie rights. It is all going to add up to Millions of $$$$$$$$$. Now, how with her limited knowledge, she will manage that $$$$$$, is the question.

  • I think everyone should leave Jaycee Dugard and her children alone. Jaycee has gone through 18 years of living hell. Let her life begin, leave her alone and let her heal so she can have enjoyment for her remaining years. Don't you think she just want to have a normal life for herself and her girls? Let her tell her story, if she chooses to do so, in her way, in her time. Asking her to be interviewed, IMO, is a violation of her privacy.

Jaycee, the public does not need to know what you endured in those 18 years. Just take care of yourself and your girls, heal and become happy. That is my wish and prayer for you.

    • it is people like you who cause the media frenzy with a desperate need for gossip - leave the poor girl alone...she has been through enough, just be content that she is safe and with her mother for gods sake. Seriously what is wrong with you!
