A man and a woman are being prosecuted in the trial for allegedly attempting to extort $25 million from the actor. The trial began on Tuesday and prosecutors are alleging that the paramedic who treated Travolta's late son Jett, 16, threatened to go public with confidential information unless the actor paid him.
Travolta testified on Wednesday about the day his son died following a seizure, according to the Associated Press. The AP reports that Travolta performed CPR on his chronically ill son after he and his wife were alerted to his son's condition when they were awakened at 10:15 a.m. by a nanny.
Travolta also testified in court that his son suffered from autism, according to the AP, which noted that it was apparently the first time he had stated in public that his son suffered from the disorder. The AP also reported that Travolta testified that his son had seizures every five to ten days that lasted between 45 seconds and a minute, and usually slept for about 12 hours following each episode.
The AP reported that the alleged plot sprang from a document that would have released the emergency crew from liability if the Travoltas refused an ambulance. Police say, according to the AP, that John Travolta signed the document only because he first wanted to take his son to the airport instead of a hospital, but that did not happen.
