Michelle Phillips Responds to Mackenzie Phillips Incest Claim

Former Mamas and the Papas singer Michelle Phillips is speaking out about ex step-daughter Mackenzie Phillips' claim that she had a sexual relationship with her father, Mamas and the Papas frontman John Phillips.

"Mackenzie's drug addiction for 35 years has been the result of many unpleasant experiences," says Phillips. "Whether her relationship with her father is delusional or not, it is an unfortunate circumstance and very hurtful for our entire family."

In Mackenzie's new book, High On Arrival, the former "One Day at a Time" child star claims to have had a sexual relationship with her father that lasted for 10 years, starting when she was about 18 years old.

On today's "The Oprah Winfrey Show," she explained, "It didn't happen every day, didn't happen every week, but it did happen many times. It became a consensual relationship over time."
