Nelly Furtado Opens Up About Having a Breakdown

When Nelly’s single, “I’m Like a Bird” became a hit in 2000, she didn’t know how to deal with her sudden celebrity status. She told the Mail on Sunday:

“Fame took me by surprise and I ended up having a breakdown. It was too much too soon.

After two years of intense touring and partying I’d spend hours alone in my LA home, just staring at the floor.

I felt like a fraud, believing that people liked me for my image and not my music.”

Nelly added:

“I’ve always been obsessive-compulsive.

As a kid I had the whole don’t-step-on-the-pavement-cracks thing going on.”

Wow, one would never have guessed she was going through a depression at that time. I hope she got the help she needed to deal with the pressures of fame.
