But there are no hard feelings: “I was pretty sad. But he was probably right. I did have a voice a bit like a goat.” However, her father told her never to give up, and he was right too. Her new album Sea Wolf has been getting great reviews.

But Shakira’s also been busy promoting another cause close to her heart. Last Friday, she was among the many celebrities who participated in a global event called “Moving Stars and Earth for Water.” The purpose was to bring attention to the plight of those around the world who do not have access to clean, safe drinking water.

Others in the star-studded event included Salma Hayek, Bono, Joss Stone, and Al Gore. Fourteen cities around the world participated, each with a different theme. For example, in Osaka, Japan, Tatuya Ishii did a performance, the theme was the melting of the polar ice caps, which will eventually cause sea levels to rise. In Johannesburg, the theme of water and education and how the two are linked was emphasized.
