Michael Jackson’s legacy has once again, confounded expectations.
In just 24 hours, advance ticket sales for “This Is It,” the documentary featuring rehearsal footage shot in the singer’s final days, have already broken records.
Nationwide, hundreds of showtimes for the film, which hits theaters Oct. 27, have sold out! Much of the fervor has been sparked by distributor Sony Pictures, which will release the film for only two weeks. With so much interest in the King of Pop’s final days, it’s quite possible most available shows will sell out before, “This Is It,” even debuts. If so, will the studio extend the movie’s run? There are no plans scheduled,” says Rory Bruer, president of Sony’s worldwide theatrical distribution. “There are plenty of shows, and everyone will have a chance to see the film.”
If not, then you will have to wait for the DVD. And when “This Is It,” DVD gets released it will likely break records of its own!
