BBC News confirmed that police were called out to Waterstone’s bookstore in London and arrested a man for allegedly attacking the singer. According to the news agency, Leona "did not require hospital treatment" but was "understandably badly shaken."
Leona's spokesman said in a statement to the BBC, "Leona was a victim of an unprovoked attack this afternoon at her book singing."
One fan at the book signing told the news agency of the confrontation, "My brother saw the whole incident. He [the attacker] walked up there with the book, she signed it and, as she looked up, he just punched her."
Another fan recalled what happened, saying, "[Leona] was running out with her hand over her eye and I just saw a man on the floor. ... Suddenly the security all jumped on him and they were trying to pull him out and he was just laughing, he thought it was funny."
Lewis -- who won the British talent show "The X Factor" in 2006 -- was at the bookstore signing copies of her new autobiography, Dreams, which is due to be released next month.
