"The Insider" has learned that singer Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from rocker Deryck Whibley.

In court documents obtained by "The Insider," Avril cites irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the split with her estranged husband, a member of rock band Sum 41.

She also requests to terminate the court's ability to award spousal support to Whibley.

Last month, Lavigne blogged about the breakup, writing the following message on her MySpace.com page: "Deryck and I have been together for 6 and a half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note. Thank you to all my family, friends and fans for all your support."

Lavigne and Whibley were married in July of 2006 and separated last month.

  • I want Deryck's babies! If Avril won't have them then I'm willing to go thru a sex change just to realize that I won't be able to conceive but I don't care! I still want to try... many, many times! :D

  • My husband and I dated for almost 2 years before tying the knot I was 18. We Divorced 9 years and 2 kids later. I found it's about finding out what and how much you can and will put up with , Never sell you're self short , Go into the relationship knowing you're own limits.

    • That gives me no hope! I still want to get married young and spend the rest of my life with my partner... people change and if you don't change as well you get left behind!

  • It's not about how old they are, it's about how long they've been together.2 years isn't nearly long enough to know you're with the right person, since most people stay in the "blind infatuation" phase for 3-4 years...

  • to the one who asked how long you're supposed to wait:

In today's society, the media and hollywood would like to sell you that being 40 is still being young.

40 is middle aged, no matter what spin you put on it.
