Los Premios MTV to honor Latin pop and rock in LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — MTV will roll its raucous red carpet across continents with its eighth annual Los Premios MTV honoring the best of the year's pop, rock and reggaeton from across Latin America.

The multi-city awards show culminates Thursday evening in Los Angeles after kicking off in September with six of 27 awards presented at regional events in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Bogota.

Canadian-Portuguese singer Nelly Furtado and Calle 13's Residente from will host the show.

The Puerto Rican reggaeton duo, Wisin y Yandel, lead with six nominations, with Mexican pop diva Paulina Rubio nominated in five categories. Mexico City's alt-psychodelic band Zoe and Lady Gaga, an American dance artist famous for her glam rock look, are each nominated for four "lenguas," the pink tongue-shaped statue inspired by Kiss' Gene Simmons.
