Hollywood film recreates Russia-Georgia war

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — Hollywood filmmakers have recreated a rally in Georgia's capital while filming a movie about the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, with Andy Garcia playing President Mikhail Saakashvili.

Thousands of Georgians gathered in central Tbilisi to take part in the film shoot Tuesday night. They carried banners reading "Russian Troops Get Out of Georgia" while actors playing the presidents of Poland and the Baltic states appeared on a stage with Garcia as Saakashvili. The real rally took place on Aug. 12, 2008.

The film is tentatively titled "Georgia" and is about a journalist and cameraman caught up in the fighting.

The Russian media have questioned whether the film will take the Georgian side in portraying the conflict. Director Renny Harlin said the movie will have a universal appeal.
