The man whose public statement prompted a mistrial in the John Travolta extortion case has publicly apologized to the court judge and the people of the Bahamas, reports the Associated Press.

Picewell Forbes made a premature announcement last week during a televised speech at a political convention that there had been an acquittal in the case while the jury was still deliberating. He now says his announcement was "reckless" and "not true."

The judge who declared a mistrial has said she is considering a contempt of court charge against Forbes, and a court hearing is scheduled for Thursday on the matter.

The Bahamian judge has ordered a retrial in the case in which charges were filed against ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne and his lawyer Pleasant Bridgewater for attempting to extort $25 million from Travolta after the passing of his son Jett. Both defendants pled not guilty.

  • Bahamas traffic is terrible because most streets are 1 lane. There are a couple 2 lane ones but everyone uses those. Good luck getting to the emergency room at their run-down hospitals. Take the 15 minutes flight back to the states instead.

  • I went to the Atlantis in the Bahamas a couple years ago and the resort was absolutely incredible. We drove to the airport and I remember seeing all the people hanging out in front of this large run down building. Then I noticed the sign that said

  • I noticed the sign that said "Hospital". The exterior had chipped paint, long lines and depressing look. I'd rather take the 15 minute flight to the U.S. to be treated here. Bahamas traffic is HORRIBLE also. It can take forever to get places because most streets are 1 lane.
