Q: What is vintage? And where are good places to buy vintage? A: Great question! The term “vintage” is thrown around a lot these days. In fact, I have been known to use the term to describe something I found in my closet from a year ago! The real definition of vintage is “previously owned garments from a previous era.” Think of it as antique clothing that was produced between 1920 and 1980. There are so many online vintage stores like www.ebay.com, www.poshgirlvintage.com and www.rustyzipper.com. If you want great vintage steals, try Goodwill, Salvation Army, and consignment stores in your neighborhood. Q: What should I wear with blue eyes and brunette hair? A: Lucky girl! My whole life I have wanted your skin and eye combo. Take advantage of your gorgeous color, and make your eyes pop! Black, pink and red are all great for you. Stay away from pastels and go for the rich tones. For a real “wow,” white will turn heads. Q: I have a plaid jacket and some plaid boots. How can I put the two together to make it look like something that Anya would put together just for [me]? A: If I were styling you, I would pick one plaid to showcase -- either the jacket or the boots. But, if you have to wear both, try crisp dark jeans or classic black pants with a black top to create separation between the plaid boots and jacket. I promise you will look more styled and get more compliments if you just rock one plaid at a time. Try it and let me know. Q: I am going to an ‘80s-themed birthday party. What do you suggest? What is a typical ‘80s outfit? A. How fun! My favorite ‘80s costume is an ‘80s work-out girl! Everything ‘80s is so in, you won’t even need to visit a costume shop to put your outfit together. Try a store like American Apparel (www.americanapparel.com) for bright or patterned leggings. Next, try Wet Seal (www.wetseal.com) for an off-the-shoulder tunic or tee. Find a large patent colored belt, and look in Claire's (www.claires.com) or Forever 21 (www.forever21.com) for jelly bracelets and large plastic earrings in shapes like stars, hearts and lightning bolts! Everything should be bright neons with pinks, purples and turquoises. Finish your look with leg warmers or lace gloves. Have fun at the party, and send me a picture of your final look!
