You're Never Too Rich To Sue: Tom Hanks Wants His 'Big Fat Greek' Profits

The producers of My Big Fat Greek Wedding--the 2002 indie comedy which struck a chord with audiences the world over who simply couldn't get enough of the many Windex-salving idiosyncrasies of an extended Greco-American family--are suing Gold Circle Films, the film's production company, for withholding profits. From THR Esq.:

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" producers Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Gary Goetzman and star Nia Vardalos are suing Gold Circle Films claiming the production company has breached contracts to pay a portion of revenue from the hit film.
The producers allege Gold Circle has thwarted attempts to conduct an audit and has provided accounting statements that are "vague and inadequate in failing to provide information consistent with industry standards," causing unspecified damages to the producers. [...]

"Greek Wedding," produced for approximately $5 million, was sold to HBO and others and went on to become a worldwide box office sensation, grossing more than $368 million in revenue, according to boxofficemojo.com.

If Hanks's lawyers successfully prove that Gold Circle is guilty of the alleged Greek Wedding book-cooking, it could spell serious trouble for the modestly sized production company, which is likely still relying on the sleeper's hefty profits to help churn out and promote their various other offerings--lesser-seen gems, like Dawg and Diane Keaton-Mandy Moore intergenerational impasse comedy, Because I Said So.
