It’s been two years since “Grindhouse.” Two years with people crying out for a feature length version of the faux-trailer “Machete” that Robert Rodriguez put together for the mid-film break. If you’re familiar with YouTube you will have seen the promo starring tattooed Mexican Danny Trejo as the ex-cop who launches a brutal rampage after being betrayed by his former boss.
Rodriguez is using all the original footage from the “Machete” trailer and filling around the blanks. “I was holding myself to keep footage that was shot,” he says. “So, it’s like, ‘How did you get those girls in the pool?’ And you back up from there. It’s a real creative challenge.”
Lead man Trejo is joined by Steven Segal, Lindsay Lohan, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michell Rodriguez and Don Johnson. As Rodriguez admits, “The movie’s got an insane cast.” Indeed.
Expect violence then, but not too much. “I don’t think it will be excessively violent for the sake of it,” says the director. “I just wanted to live up to the trailer, but it’s far surpassed it.” Say no more.
