In a revealing interview with Diane Sawyer, an emotional Rihanna, 21, recalls the abuse she endured while dating singer Chris Brown and why, following that terrifying night before the Grammy Awards, she went back to him.

In her first sit-down interview since her highly publicized domestic dispute with Brown, Rihanna says she was embarrassed that she "fell in love with that person...so unconditional that I went back."

"You start lying to yourself the minute the physical wounds go away," she tells Sawyer.

"That's a memory you don't want to have ever again."

Tears welling up, the pop singer continues, "When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. ... I couldn't be held responsible for telling them to go back."

The pop star had this message, "Don't react off of love. ... Love is so blind."

Rihanna's sit down with Sawyer, that aired in part on "Good Morning America" on Thursday, continues on "GMA" on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 a.m. ET -- and then on Nov. 6 at 10 p.m. ET on "20/20."

Following the domestic violence incident, Brown was sentenced to five years of probation, community labor and one year of domestic violence counseling.

  • I'm watching the insider right now and Lara just asked Mary to explain the domestic violence cicle. Lara asked why after going trough the abuse a woman goes back...well I like Mary, but I feel she failed to give an explanation that people that have never been through it can understand. As a former victim and now survivor of domestic violence I what I would like people to understand before they go on judging a victim for staying in the relationship is: first, a woman doesn't see herself as a victim neither her partner as an abuser, second we don't fall in love with the abuser, we fall in love with the loving man that is good to us, third once you fall in love it is hard to believe that the person you fell in love with is actually hurting you so you try to find justification for what the abuser is doing to you in hopes that he will change. And that my friends is why a victim goes back so many time before braking free. I feel Rihanna said some very wise words in her interview. SEE THE SITUATION AS A THIRD PERSON and FOR WHAT IT IS...then make your decision...F LOVE!
