Brandy Suffering From Bad Case of Wrong-Place-Wrong-Time

Remember how, back in the late 1990s, Brandy had that hit television show “Moesha”, and then remember how she was a successful recording artist and had some number one hits and was a CoverGirl spokeswoman and had roles in a couple of movies and everything was great?  Well, those days are sadly over…and soon the profits from them will be, too.

Brandy has been deemed at fault for the December 30th freeway accident that took one woman’s life.  Police are recommending that the R&B star be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, a ruling that could result in a year behind bars if found guilty.

Even if charges are never brought against Brandy, the tragic accident and her widely publicized responsibility for it will no doubt leave the star open to a massive civil lawsuit from the deceased woman’s family.  Wrongful death usually reaps a big cash settlement.

But is Brandy really ‘at fault’ beyond the most literal interpretations of the statement?  It was 10:30 in the morning, she hadn’t been drinking, she wasn’t driving the wrong way down the freeway (we’re looking at you, Nicole Richie), and she had been going with the flow of traffic until it stopped suddenly.

Yes, the momentum from her car caused the chain reaction that led to that poor woman’s death.  We’ve all been in close calls while driving; what’s to stop one day’s fender bender from being a tragedy on par with Brandy’s accident?  Brandy has already said that she feels incredibly bad for what happened, and so do we, for everyone involved.
