The estate of Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein is suing several companies and individuals, including Clay Lacy Aviation, the company that chartered the Learjet plane that crashed in September 2008 in South Carolina.

In court documents obtained by "The Insider," Goldstein's estate claims that the plane crash "ultimately caused" his death.

The estate claims that Goldstein "suffered severe pre and post-impact injury, including but not limited to, severe burns to his body from the post-impact fire, damage to property, pain, suffering, and emotional distress."

The estate is also suing Learjet, Goodyear Tire, Global Exec Aviation, a travel services company, and the estates of the two pilots who died in the crash.

The famed disc jockey was found dead on August 28. The New York City Medical Examiner told "The Insider" back in September that Goldstein died of "acute intoxication" due to the combined effects of cocaine, oxycodone, hydrocodone (Vicodin), Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole -- a drug that is used to cut cocaine. The cause of his death was listed as "accident (substance abuse)."

  • Doctors today are just legal pushers of drugs and need to be held accountable.

  • I think the responsibility lies with his doctors first, because a doctor should know how dangerous the situation is when a sober addict requires meds

  • a Good well informed doctor would know this could set the addict up for a slip in other words it may make him go back to drugs.

    • So DJ should have been made aware he needed centain drugs and then he'd need detox again and still he be at risk for relapse

    • its very sad that most doctors are not aware of how delicate the addict's a medical condition is when requiring medication
      catbme 11/14/09
    • and if they went back to drugs that the body would react more strongly risk of overdose be greater

  • I think the responsiblitity lies with doctors and D.J to a point any addict should be made aware by his doctor if he gets injured and needs pain medication it is a tricky situation

  • ....move on with their life. Everyone has suffered. DJ should have sought a different avenue of help instead of using more drugs. Just let it go.
