Just in 2009, Oprah interviewed such notables as Whitney Houston, Sarah Palin and Elizabeth Edwards, and they, like most who visit Oprah's couch, told all about not only their successes, but also their struggles.
No one can forget Tom Cruise declaring his love for Katie Holmes by jumping on Oprah's couch in 2005; in 2008, Tom invited Oprah to visit his home in Telluride, CO, in an interview which highlighted the couple's domestic bliss.
In 1986, the famed singer Liberace made his final television appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," dying only weeks later of complications from AIDS. Michael Jackson did a rare interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1993, inviting the world into his Neverland Ranch on the episode, which led to enormous ratings.
In 1996, Lady O launched Oprah's Book Club, which inspired millions of Americans to read for pleasure and spurred the success of numerous scribes, following that up with getting the ball rolling on Oprah's Angel Network in 1997, a charity which encourages people everywhere to make a difference in the lives of others.
Oprah also launched the career of two doctors who have become household names -- Dr. Phil McGraw and Dr. Mehmet Oz. Both men appeared on her show and then later went on to star in their own programs.
Oprah's giveaways also became legendary -- she shared her "Favorite Things" with her audience every year, giving away items ranging from electronics to cashmere sweaters to her favorite beauty products. And in 2004, she even went as far as to give away a car to every member of the studio audience for her premiere episode.
