Mary-Louise Parker's in the Weeds

WEEDS is one of the most popular series on SHOWTIME - and Mary-Louise Parker's portrayal of pot-selling suburban mom Nancy Botwin is the main reason why.

Nancy lives in the California town of Agrestic - a place of strip-malls, unnaturally green lawns and big-haired PTA harpies. Nancy's life is anything but a typical suburban drudgery though.  Ever since her husband's sudden death, a cash-strapped Nancy has been earning extra dough by growing pot and selling it in the neighborhood. That's what you call initiative.

Of course Nancy wants to keep her activities a secret- especially from her crazy city councilwoman pal Celia (Elizabeth Perkins).  Then there are her two sons Shane and Silas - they found out their mom was peddling dope, and now slacker Silas (Hunter Parrish) wants in on the "family business."  Hey, beats working at the local coffee shop.

Mary-Louise Parker has won a Golden Globe for playing Nancy, the savvy but sometimes befuddled mom.  Whether the show is lampooning suburban life, or dealing with Nancy's sometimes-wacky family issues, Parker's nuanced acting always keeps it grounded in real-life feeling.

At the end of last season, Nancy found herself in imminent danger of being shot by thugs looking to make off with her money and product. Now, Showtime is ready to unleash season 3 - and fans want to know how Nancy will ever get out of this mess.

Catch the critically acclaimed SHOWTIME comedy WEEDS, Mondays at 10PM ET/PT.
