First Lady Laura Bush and Jenna Bush to write children's book together

by Jamey, Auditioning CBB Contributor.

U.S. First Lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna, 25, are teaming up to write a children’s book together, publisher HarperCollins recently announced. The picture book will be about a little boy who doesn’t care to read, but through the encouragement of his teachers becomes a reading enthusiast. Susan Katz, President and Publisher of HarperCollins Children's Books, stated:

We know that their experiences as teachers will contribute in so many ways to this project.

The book is set to release in early 2008, in both English and Spanish. The proceeds from the book sales will help support two national teacher programs: Teach for America and The New Teacher Project.

Both women have teaching experience themselves. Laura taught in the Texas public school system and Jenna has taught in a school Washington. She has been most recently working with the UN children’s agency in Panama as an intern. Jenna has also written a book entitled, Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope, based on her UNICEF work experience in Latin America. The book is due to go on sale at the end of September.
