Love it or Hate it? Love it!: Chelsea Lately

Don’t watch Chelsea Lately for the star power. (Unless you think Kim Kardashian or Shar Jackson have star power.) Don’t watch Chelsea Lately for breaking news. (Unless you think Britney Spear’s naked lady parts are breaking news. Every time they appear. Uncovered.)

Watch Chelsea Lately if you want to give your brain a rest from the politically charged late night line up, your enjoyment of the jokes on which necessitate that you’ve read a book in the last couple months and have made even a cursory effort to keep up with current affairs. Watch Chelsea Lately if you appreciate the ridiculousness that is tabloid fodder, and feel less embarassed being addicted to it if you’re proactively making fun of it. Although we all love us a little Sarah Silverman, she will ask you not to hate her because she is beautiful when Chelsea will self-efface. And dare I say sometimes, late at night (when you have potato chips making grease stains on your oversize sweatshirt), you need the latter.

For me, Chelsea Handler’s new late-night half hour of irreverence is a must see. The New York times put it best when they said “{Chelsea’s} interviews with narcissists who hardly know they’re being satirized are simply good for the health of the body politic.”

  • It's strange how much someone's personality can repulse you, yet for some, unexplainable reason, you have to put her as #1 on the "to do" list.
