1924 : First commercially sponsored radio program debuts
On this day in 1924, the first network radio program to be sponsored by advertising debuts. The show, The Eveready Hour, was sponsored by the National Carbon Company and broadcast in New York, Washington, and Providence. The show was the first of many radio variety shows, featuring music, stories, and celebrity appearances.
