The Writers Guild of America (i.e. the union for writers of just about every scripted show out there) is on strike trying to get a piece of the money that the studios get from DVD sales and internet broadcasts. So far neither side is budging much.
So, shows that require frequent and up-to-date scripts like the nightly talk shows are in reruns. Shows that already have a stockpile of scripts are okay for a little while, but some movies are already being pushed back on production (like an upcoming Johnny Depp flick and a film with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem).
"Desperate Housewives" and "The Office" are both stalled and the new season of "24" is postponed for now. A ton of celebs are supporting the WGA (they know who can have them killed off next season!). Those who have visited the writers on the picket lines include Jay Leno, Sally Field, Alyson Hannigan, Julianna Marguiles, Sandra Oh, John Edwards, Alicia Keys, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Felicity Huffman, and Eva Longoria.
What do you think of the writers strike? When will it end?
