Yet another strange tale of beauty queen weirdness has emerged and this time, it took place during the 2008 Miss Universe competition. Miss Puerto Rico, Ingrid Marie Rivera, maintained her composure during the competition, however, off-camera she broke out in hives two times, taking off her clothes in between appearances on stage to apply ice to the swollen areas. Initially, pageant officials believed that it was the result of nerves, or even an allergy of some sort, but tests performed on her make-up and clothing revealed traces of pepper spray. Now, however, Rivera's credibility is coming into question, with investigators wondering how she was able to fight back the tears while appearing before the judges. When reporter Kerry Sanders was asked by Meredith Vieira whether or not these investigators believed the story was invented by Rivera herself, Sanders responded, "They're looking into it. They're curious." Either someone sabotaged her stuff, or she did it to herself to evoke sympathy--no matter what their findings reveal, it just confirms my theory that beauty queens are bonkers. Any competition that has a person using "butt adhesive" makes me uncomfortable.
