If I remember correctly, in Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, the Terminator/Arnie shuts himself down so as to counter his programmed directive of killing Connor (and so tenderly demonstrating that Robots Are People Too).
I might not have that right, but what I do distinctly remember is that 3 was utter crap.
Can Bale rescue the series and take it beyond the Arnie "I'll be back" mandate?
I'd go out on a limb and say that if anyone can, he's our man. But perhaps a decent script and director is not a bad idea either. Unfortunately, it looks like John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris, who wrote Terminator 3, and other screen gems like Catwoman (ouch!) and The Net 2.0 (zowzer!) is plugging away at the preproduction script. Channel the Bale, boys, channel the Bale....
Bale is currently on location in Hong Kong, shooting the next installment in the Batman series, The Dark Knight. With Heath Ledger as the Joker (and how creeped out are you by this image?) (shudders) this one's got to work.
Bye bye to the Brawn of Arnie, Bruce, and Sylvester, we're going to get ourselves some Brains!
