Reading the reviews now, the critics seemed to find Cox’s character of Lucy Spiller as a gigantic, ruthless bitch of a tabloid magazine really unbelievable. I don’t think I am that naïve of a TV connoisseur to say that I totally buy it. She is cold, vicious, and ruthless. The only warmth I have seen so far is her relationship with her brother. There is also enough weird twisted, R rated material that makes is good cable TV. There is the explicit butt bouncing sex scenes once in a while, the schizophrenic photographer that gave birth to a litter of kittens by a pregnant dead girl and enough F words to make me happy. Plus! They made Wayne Brady look like a bad ass.
In fact, I was sort of surprised how they have made her into the anti-Monica Geller, her character from Friends. I also saw the clip where Jennifer Aniston guest stars and it made it so obvious how Courteney can distance herself from Monica, while Jennifer is still Rachel. The big “kiss” was a yawner, I have seen more explicit girl on girl kissing on network television. Then I felt kinda’ badly for Jennifer, because I have always been on Team Aniston. At least she can be Rachel in romantic comedies for a good while. Cox-Arquette could certainly stretch her talent in other ways.
With the writers strike killing my will to live, and worrying that I will be watching nothing BUT Friends reruns come January, at least there is something I can look forward to watching that I have never seen before
