Ike Wister Turner was born in Clarksdale Mississippi to Beatrice Cushenberry and Izear Luster Turner. He got his first taste of music at the tender age of 8 while working at a local radio station.
He started his first band in the late 1940s, but he didn't reached stardom until he met a demanding teenager named Annie Mae Bullock from Nutbush Tennessee. Ike and Annie Mae would formed a group, Ike and Tina Turner Revue. They would score big with "Proud Mary," "A Fool in Love," "River Deep-Mountain High" and "Nutbush City Limits."
After Ike and Tina's divorce, he would never regained the success that he shared with Tina.
Quotable Moment of Ike:
Sure, I've slapped Tina... There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I never beat her.
A rep for Tina Turner had this to say:
“Tina hasn’t had any contact with Ike in more than 30 years. No further comment will be made”
Ouch.
