"Gossip Girl" Pair Destroys Fan Dreams

When I heard the rumor that the Gossip Girl pair Blake Lively and Penn Badgley were dating in real life? I squealed with glee. It was almost better than Seth and Summer! Especially since this grown woman may possibly be a huge fan of the books. Unless you think that's lame. Then that woman is totally not me.

I should have known it was too good to be true that Dan and Serena were together. People.com had to go and squash the rumor.

"Everybody always tries to dig into your personal life or create things that aren't there. . . . It's silly," Lively told PEOPLE at the Chanel Fine Jewelry event on Wednesday night. "Any male friend is obviously a 'romance alert' [for the media], but I've always been friends with boys my whole life. "

Of course, there's always the hope that Lively is lying...isn't there? I mean, that statement could be ambiguous. Couldn't it? And should I be shamed even more by myself for so desperately hoping this rumor was true?
