A source close to Cruise tells Us the two spoke by phone once and the actor realized it was a hoax. "They spoke briefly but he realized the caller was an impostor almost immediately and he hung up," the source says.
The impostor also arranged for hotel rooms at New York's Carlyle Hotel before Ledger's reps and police were notified.
