Between intense rehearsals, the reality show newbies joined alums Ace Young (who placed seventh on season five) and Justin Guarini (second place to Kelly Clarkson the first season) at the Day After Lounge in Hollywood.
"The judges have always been saying, 'this is the best year ever' and so on, but this year I really think they got it right," Guarini told Usmagazine.com of the new group, who were selected Wednesday.
Inside, guests snacked on chicken breast and fish cakes with a make-your-own cupcake desert stand.
The contestants posed for photos and flirted with each other, an onlooker told Us.
Kady Malloy, who sang "Unchained Melody" during tryouts, held hands with Colton David Berry — who was the last person selected to go on to the finals — at the desert table, while Kristy Lee Cook, known for her a capella rendition of "Amazing Grace" confidently strutted around the room with a few girlfriends, says an eyewitness.
The group was rounded up — at just 9:30 p.m.! — to head out.
