Yet after romancing hundreds of stunning women, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Helena Christensen and Melanie Sykes, could Mick Hucknall, at 47, finally have taken the plunge?
The Simply Red singer is proudly wearing a diamond-encrusted ring on his wedding finger, keeps describing partner Gabriella Wesberry as "my wife" and talks excitedly about their joy at starting a family together. He may be one of Britain's most successful singers, with a £40million fortune and 45 million record sales worldwide, but only now has Mick found complete personal happiness.
It's come since settling down with "soulmate" Gabriella six years ago and the birth of his first child. Romy True was born in June and, much to Mick's delight, has inherited his famous flame-coloured hair and love of Manchester United.
He says: "I feel like I've embarked on the second stage of my life. I think I've gone into a completely different mode now and I'm thankful and happy for that. We are even trying for a second baby now so there won't be too much of a gap."He says: "It's been quite exhausting because I've been changing nappies myself, as we decided not to employ a nanny. And I was looking after my wife, who was bedbound after Romy arrived, and at the same time working on my new album in the spare room."
Romy's birth, in a London hospital, was not without anxiety. She was in the breech position and Gabriella needed a Caesarean.
He says: "The doctors hoped she would spin round but she didn't. Clearly she's just like her dad - stubborn.
"This meant that because of the position her legs had been in, she had to be in a harness for six weeks to ensure her hips grew properly."
Like any new dad, Mick was moved by the birth. He says: "The moment I saw her I wouldn't say I was blubbering but I had a little water around my eyes.
"I picked her up and cut the cord and had this little monster in front of me, blood all over the place. It was incredible and I've not looked back since. I love it.
"She does something new every day, a new look, a new sound, that's the joy of it.
"One of the first things everyone wants to know is if she has red hair.
"Gabriella, who's a brunette, always wanted a redhead but it took a while to find out. Red hair started to emerge and now it's just getting redder and redder. We're delighted." And, as a lifelong Man Utd fan who is a close friend of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, he's also proud to report: "She really enjoys her football on TV, she can watch United for 20 minutes and I think she even cheered when they scored."
While he insists he won't be a pushy father, he hopes she will learn the piano, which he regrets not doing, and foreign languages. Something she will need as the Hucknalls move between his homes in Paris, Sicily and London.Celebs and Bubs
