Larry Davis Killed in Prison
The uncanny urban hero, Larry Davis (a.k.a Adam Abdul-Hakeem) is dead at 41 from a fatal stabbing at Shawangunk Jail, 80 miles north of New York City where he was recently transferred and awaiting a possible parole in the oncoming year. Davis was attacked 2 days ago in the rec-yard of the correctional facility and shanked repeatedly in his arms, back, neck and head by an alleged inmate.

Davis gained local notoriety after severely wounding six NYPD officers in a 1986 shootout, escaping from the scene unhurt, and sparking a 17-day and over 100 officer manhunt in which he would eventually turn himself in to custody. At Davis's trial, his defence team accused police officers of trying to kill him because he had knowledge of police corruption, and said he had acted in self-defence. Although a jury acquitted him of attempted murder and aggravated assault in relation to the police shootings Davis was convicted on weapons charges and then an unrelated murder in 1991.
