Apparently nine-year cast member Rudolph has been without a contract since the beginning of this season, but remained on the show in good faith that the contract details would be hammered-out in her favor.
However she chose not to return after the Writer's Strike—and was instead replaced with Casey Wilson, from the Upright Citizen's Brigade troupe in New York City (home of Amy Poehler.)
Apparently Lorne Michaels still really wants Maya Rudolph back and is trying everything possible—which may or may not include actually offering her a favorable contract. Duh, Lorne?
