She came into limelight for her role as Penny Lane in the 2000 rock ‘n roll memoir Almost Famous, which got her a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and a nomination for the Academy Awards. She married Chris Robinson, singer for the rock group Black Crowes, in 2000 and has a 3-year-old son Ryder. The couple seperated in August 2006.
Kate met Owen Wilson on the sets of You, Me and Dupree and their romance developed alongside the film. And shortly after the relese of the film, Kate filed for divorce from Chris Robinson.
Kate and Owen have had their share of ups and downs in their romance, partly because of her first marriage and partly due to her parents’ disapproval. A source told the New York Daily News newspaper:
Owen backed out of spending Christmas and New Year with Kate because he didn’t want to deal with the whole situation with her family. There was Chris and the baby, and also her parents Goldie and Kurt don’t approve of the relationship.
But the couple have decided to put the past behind a curtain and take their romance out of the closet.
