Over the weekend, he performed at a black-tie, 300-guest bat mitzvah in Huntington, New York.
The 18-year-old sang Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" while 12-year-old Rachel Lader shared her first dance with dad.
He also belted out The Kinks' "You Really Got Me," which he performed twice on Idol before getting the boot.
Malakar is still wild about his hair: He showed off a new 'do, which he got styled, alongside Lader, at the chic nuBest Salon and Spa before the ceremony.
Post-Idol life for Malakar (who relocated from Seattle to L.A. with sister), has been "a whirlwind," he says.
"While you're on it, it moves so fast," he tells Newsday. "But afterwards, you can kind of sit back and see what happens."
