Jennifer Aniston had moved on. After the long-awaited meeting between Angelina Jolie and her fell apart — when Angie and Brad Pitt backed out of the Feb. 23 Night Before pre-Oscar party in LA — the headlines about the almost-showdown were quickly forgotten.Until Angelina’s brother, James Haven, opened his mouth, that is. In an interview with the U.K.’s Grazia magazine, James revealed the real reason the couple were no-shows (despite being listed, along with Jen, as co-hosts of the party). While the oddly worded statement seemed sweet on the surface, it managed to paint Jen as a fragile, wounded woman who could never have handled a meeting with her ex-husband’s lover.
So what made Angie lash out at Jen via her brother? Angie (who has said she is willing to meet with Jen) was getting negative publicity for skipping the Night Before party, especially since she chose to publicly flaunt her baby bump that same day at the Independent Spirit Awards. Despite her super-confident public image, Angelina’s actually deeply insecure, says an insider. “She’s convinced that Jen is still in love with Brad,” the insider says. As a result, says the insider, Brad is dismayed by James’ comments about Jen but is afraid to say anything to Angelina. “He knows her knee-jerk reaction will be to accuse him of taking Jen’s side,” the insider says. “He just wants to keep the peace.”
