(Don't miss fresh coverage of MMJ, Vampire Weekend, MGMT and Grand Ole Party at South by Southwest.)
Pemberton is probably best known as a popular winter-vacation spot (Whistler Resort, a ski destination where a bulk of the events will be held for the 2010 Winter Olympics, is close by). But Live Nation didn't just pick Pemberton for the sweet views. It's using the 360-acre festival grounds – complete with a festival village, camping facilities and an RV park – as a way to raise environmental awareness. Hydroelectric energy will be used as the event's main power source, and carpoolers with four or more can park for free. Instead of typical festival fare, Pemberton will have a farmer's market where local farmers can sell their goods directly to concertgoers. When it's time to sleep off all the fresh food and rocking, campsites will be available, or if you prefer more civilized lodging, motels and top-notch luxury hotels in Whistler are an option.
