Consolers of the Lonely will be available March 25 as a CD, digital download and full-length vinyl release. The band have also stated that fans will be able to pick up a copy pretty much everywhere (indie record stores, corporate mega-stores, supermarkets, iTunes, Amazon, and the Raconteurs Web site). According to a press release issued Monday, Consolers of the Lonely contains 14 new tracks and is being released globally on Third Man Records, Jack White's imprint, in conjunction with XL Recordings and Warner Bros. Third Man Records is Jack White's imprint.
Why would a band with so much popularity and time to strategically map out a marketing plan do this? I'll let the press release explain:
The purpose: to get the album to the fans as soon as possible and as we promised. We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding its availability, reception or perception.
"We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and THEN market and promote it thereafter." The band talks more about Raconteurs fans having their own choice as to exactly in which format they would like to purchase the album. The "all at once" idea works best for everybody instead of having to wait months for the vinyl version, or feeling forced to buy digitally when they want it on CD. What a bunch of nice guys.
The first single, and video, for “Salute Your Solution” is scheduled to be online March 25.
As previously reported, The Raconteurs are playing Coachella this spring with recent additions Aphex Twin and Goldfrapp.
