Smith Children's Book of the Year award will be presented at the Galaxy British Book Awards next month. But the decision to nominate Jordan's book has whipped high-brow authors into a frenzy. The Society of Authors, the Times has reported, has been inundated with complaints - the authors of Girl with a Pearl Earring and of Chocolat among them."I'm shocked," the Times reported Tracy Chevalier, author of Girl with a Pearl Earring, as saying. "I'm amazed the publishers even put the book up. If it's ghost-written then it's inappropriate that it should be shortlisted. I am disappointed by the judges." A ghost-writer is a professional writer who is paid to write books, articles, stories, or reports which are officially credited to another person. Celebrities, executives, and political leaders often hire ghost-writers to draft or edit books - usually their autobiographies. The ghost-writer is rarely acknowledged. Jordan's publishers insist that as Jordan herself is a "brand", it is impossible to say how much of the book she wrote herself, the Times reported. ..Celebs and Bubs
