Stone Temple Pilots confirm epic reunion tour

As was rumored on Buzznet following the departure of Scott Weiland from Velvet Revolver, the Stone Temple Pilots have officially revealed that they will be reuniting and launching a massive 2008 concert tour encompassing over 65 dates and hitting all corners of North America. It will be the first national tour for the Pilots in almost eight years.

The tour will kick off May 17 with a headlining performance at the Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, Ohio, and will continue all the way through November.

According to a press release, the band is planning to celebrate the announcement of its reunion tour with an exclusive launch event to benefit the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The event will include a private performance for a select group of contest winners and fans at a secret location in California's Hollywood Hills. The full list of 2008 tour dates will also be announced at the event.

STP were an absolutely dominant force in the '90s and have sold 35 million albums worldwide to date. Their 1994 album, Purple, went all the way to #1 on the Billboard 200. Their resume also includes six #1 singles and a Grammy Award in "Best Hard Rock Performance" for their song "Plush." The band's legions of diehard fans are no doubt extremely excited for their reunion.
