Europeans Show Disgust With China: Olympic Torch Run Burnt

Security officials have extinguished the Olympic torch amid heavy protests during the relay in Paris.

Police in jogging gear put the torch out and brought it aboard a bus, apparently to move it away from protesters. The flame was being carried down a road along the Seine River amid demonstrators carrying Tibetan flags when the relay was stopped. It is not immediately clear what police plan next. About 3,000 police — riding motorcycles, jogging or traveling on skates — are on hand to protect the Olympic torch.  The Paris mayor has ordered a banner over City Hall that reads "Paris City of Human Rights." On Monday, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said all options remained open for Paris concerning a possible boycott of the opening of the Beijing Olympics.

Earlier when the Torch passed through London there were massive protests against China’s human rights record and their brutal treatment of Tibet. Despite extremely tight security, authorities could not stop determined London human-rights activists Sunday from disrupting the torch relay several times, with UK police making more than two dozen arrests.

These protests are heartening and luckily the mainstream press is covering the events accurately. This insures that China will not be able to use the hosting of the Olympics to be portrayed as an acceptance of their horrible human rights record - they will not be able to hide their evil ways from the West and pretend that they are a normal healthy part of the international community.  We have stood for far too much horror and brutality in our long history - let’s put an end to it wherever we see it.  Right now that means China.  You shouldn’t play games with murderers, torturers, and monsters - hence stay out Beijing and boycott the 2008 Chinese Olympics - in fact do as I and boycott all products of China - do not support terror and genocide.
