Paul said:

Sharon Stone gave me her panties as a present before we did the famous (crotch) shot.

He further added:

(She) had approved the storyboards, even though she later acted surprised by what made it into the movie.

We always knew Sharon could act but now we know that she could act in real life, too. Perhaps, the surprise expressed by Sharon added to the popularity of the scene.
