Heath Ledger Had Problems Snapping Out of Character

Heath Ledger’s tragic death sent shockwaves through Hollywood at the end of January. New information has come to light today about Heath's troubled life up until that point. Reports state that Ledger, who launched himself to A-list status after his break-out role in “Brokeback Mountain,” had trouble separating himself from the characters he played. Dotspotter blogger, nyzombie, has the details:

Heath Ledger was reportedly told to seek professional help for his personal problems while filming The Dark Knight.

The late Australian actor - who tragically died from an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January - was reportedly warned he had become too obsessed with his portrayal of iconic Batman villain The Joker in the upcoming blockbuster.

A source told FOX News:

"Heath refused to talk to anyone out of character. If you tried to communicate with him normally instead of The Joker, he would just ignore you."

"He would often come to the set to hang out even on his days off, freaking everyone out. Towards the end of filming, he was warned by people that he had gone too far, but it was almost like he couldn't connect with those who cared for him anymore."

Ledger reportedly locked himself in an apartment for an entire month before playing The Joker, who he described as a "psychotic, mass-murdering clown".

Ledger also admitted he had such trouble sleeping while shooting the film he resorted to taking the prescription drug Ambien.

Sources on the set of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - the movie Ledger was filming when he died - also claimed the actor could not "snap out" of character and seemed to have "lost sense" of who he was.

  • I believe Michelle had concerns, and probably found it hard living with him. That is so unfortunate. They seemed good for each other, for the time they were together. Since then, he always seemed happy around Matilda. Too sad...

  • i have been so sad about his death, still. He was a great actor and always done research about his role so he could play it the best ever, and he never failed. Good or bad movie he always played a superb part. Of course I did not really know him, but I really do believe that if he was still with Michelle and Matilda it may not have happened. (just my observation of course)He always seemed so happy when he was with them. Don't get me wrong I am not blaming it on anyone. I just wish he had been more careful with his meds.

  • He will be missed... he was a great actor
  • Heath Ledger put heart and soul in all his roles.
This one was no exception. He commented that playing the joker was the best fun he had ever had with a character. He certainly forgot 'the
joker' in his next film Dr Parnassus. He was so good it needed 3 A lister actors to fini off!! His death was nothing more than a tragic
    accident, end of!!
