Kelly Clarkson Pictures: Kelly Clarkson Sings Ava Maria For The Pope

If I had to guess, I would say Kelly Clarkson's target audience doesn't normally include the Pope.  Until now that is.  As the Pope and onlookers gathered at a NY rally, Kelly performed her rendition of Ava Maria. If he didn't have it already, I'm sure he'll be downloading her music on his MP3 player as soon as he gets back to the Vatican.  Dotspotter user GabbyBabble has the story.

 

 

Yesterday the first winner of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, sang "Ava Maria" for Pope Benedict XVI who is now visiting in New York. The picture at the top is the Pope in his Popemobile in Fifth Ave yesterday.


Kelly Clarkson performance was okay, but nothing can be compared to the amazing "Ava Maria" performance of Bono and Pavarotti.   Check out the video!

  • She has a great voice but, you cannot take it from Pavarotti. It was a little to fast, but anytime a song can give your body chills and make you smile, well done. Kelly Clarkson. Thats why you are an american idol.

  • I at first did not see her name as the performer, and the cameras were not on her so I didn't expect to hear her wonderful voice. OK it wasn't Pavarotti but why would he be the voice at a youth rally? I'm in my fifties and I thought she added a youthful sound plus a wonderful plea behind her voice that was spiritual. She was also dressed to kill in that dress. She looked elegant. I think Benedict, who is a musician, was genuinely thrilled with her performance. She's a consummate musician. Silverbay

  • well, kelly clarkosn did it great, because for a pop/rock super star she did it with her heart and gave herself to this even if she is not catholic she show us that if you have God in your heart then your religion is in your heart and you have to share it with others.

  • I am not a fan of Kelly Clarkson's voice as she has resorted to too many cliches of the R&B crowd on her recordings: yelling, screaming and endless boring trills. However, her performance of the classic Ave Maria was not bad. Granted, it was too fast and her Latin was abysmal but I believe she truly tried to give her best reverential treatment to the classic. When she sings "straight" her voice can be lovely. The Ave Maria is one of the world's and the Catholic Church' most revered and popular hymns. Over the years It has been performed and recorded by some of the world's greatest operatic and pop vocalists: Mario Lanza, Lucianno Pavarotti, Andreas Bocelli, Bing Crosby, Jerry Vale and Charlotte Church, to name just a few. It was created and composed to honor the Mother of God whom Catholics have a special veneration for. I think Clarkson did her best to convey her respect to the Pope and to the Holy Mother of God.

  • dude, what the heck are you smoking? THAT WAS THE BEST VERSION OF 'AVA MARIE' I'VE EVER HEARD. I GUESS THAT'S BECAUSE KELLY CLARKSON HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE IN THE WORLD! OPEN YOUR EYES/AND EARS DUDE, AND LISTEN TO IT AGAIN, IT'S AN ANGEL SINGING!!!
