Nicole Kidman Speaks Out For Women

She’s taking some time off of her acting career during her pregnancy, but don’t call Nicole Kidman a slouch.

The “Moulin Rouge” actress was in New York City yesterday fulfilling her role as UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador at a press conference against violence towards women at the United Nations.

Kidman made the point that we’re rarely confronted regarding the staggering statistics in the realm of violence against women. “One in three women will encounter violence in some way, shape or form against them in their lifetime.  That’s an extraordinary statistic. Yet do we ever hear it?”

Nicole also said that her UNIFEM involvement hits close to home.  “I’m a mother, I have a child on the way, I have two children in the world and a lot of (my motivation) is about realizing the things that are wrong and how can I contribute.  What are the things I can contribute to help my children have a better life and help other children around the world have a better life and other citizens of the world have a better life.”
